Artist Statement

Life is a composition of the small, the unremarkable, the ephemeral, the largely unnoticed. These are the things I photograph - the often living objects that we pass at the speed of life without a thought.  Each instance can never be reproduced, even as cycles repeat.  Without intentionally slowing down to observe these seemingly insignificant parts of the world, we would never know the moment existed.  The vast majority of these images come from a mere 0.17 acre area of land (the origin of “Point 17 Studio”). They are shot in situ, undisturbed and unposed. Any moisture is from nature - be it rain, snow, or dew.  Any life, including insects and pollinators are disturbed as little as possible and all are as they exist.  If they are alive before shooting, they are alive after.

It is not the perfection that makes these things amazing, but the imperfections, the entropy, the ephemera.  It is my hope you find an image or two that touches you, that connects you to a part of the world that doesn’t understand the speed of news cycles, the monetization of hype, and has no need for unnecessary drama.
